Thundering Bitch with Thunder Thighs
Greetings. My name is Amaya and this is my personal weight loss/body positivity/life changing blog. Here I'll track my progress as I fast, exercise, and cook my way to feeling comfortable in my own skin. It'll probably consist of (a lot of) whining and inspiration, but I imagine this is all part of the process of getting to where I've always needed to be. I've given up dieting; I'm going to transform myself instead. This isn't just about my body, this is my life, and I'm tired of fucking it up.
What is vinyasa yoga?
There are many different types of yoga, one of which is vinyasa. In Sanskrit, vinyasa means ‘synchronized breathing’. Breathing exercises are completed during a series of progressive postures during a session, which creates a plethora of mental and physical benefits for the yogi.
What are the benefits of vinyasa yoga? [1]
- Raised Internal Heat— Practicing yoga raises the body’s temperature, thus purifying muscles and organs of toxins through sweat.
- Increased Blood Flow— The rise in temperature also stimulates increased blood flow, which replenishes the muscles and organs of fresh nutrients and oxygen.
- Better Immune Defense— Additionally, a higher body temperature means that the immune system can more easily fight infection, keeping you healthier.
- Flexibility and Lubrication— When you stretch, your muscles become less tense, thus making strains less likely to occur. Tendons and ligaments are also lubricated, which makes them more flexible and less prone to injury.
- Increased Metabolic Activity— Yoga decreases the duration at which glucose and fatty acids are broken down, ultimately assisting in weight loss and muscle toning.
- Conscious Control and A Clear Mind— Properly practiced vinyasa yoga ensures that an adequate blood flow reaches vital organs and the brain, resulting in a clear and relaxed mind.
How do I practice vinyasa yoga?
Most group sessions at a gym last 45 minutes to 1 hour and are practiced at a fairly quick pace. If it is your first time alone, the best way to get started is to take cues from a teacher, so check out one of these ‘vinyasa flow’ videos on YouTube.
